KPESA is pleased to announce that the IBB teams reached a tentative agreement with KPBSD for all certified staff. Below are our announcement video that goes over the changes, an explanatory video from KPBSD explaining the healthcare component in some more detail, and a fact sheet with all of the major changes. Finally, a copy of the final agreement that we will be putting to a vote, and the schedule to ratification.
We know that the change to the healthcare plan may be a big change and a lot to wrap your head around. We will be doing informative meetings this year, and the change does not take effect until January 1, 2023, so you have some time to figure out what will work best for you. Look at the healthcare cost estimates and consider that there may be a way to reorganize your insurance situation to benefit you in ways that you didn't realize.
For example, if you and your spouse both work for the school district, you currently may have yourself, your spouse, and your kids on your plan, making you double covered. Under this agreement, you could move yourself to employee + children, and your spouse to individual employee, and that would result in a cost savings, but would change your double coverage status. This change was a very high priority to our members when we polled membership before bargaining began. We believe that the move to a four-tier healthcare plan benefits a majority of our members, and is in line with much of the rest of our sector.
Please note: The fourth tier, "Employee + Family", is equivalent to "Employee + Spouse + Children."
Below is a video from KPBSD explaining some of these details.

Ratification Vote Details
KPESA will be holding a ratification vote for all members of the association from August 13th through August 27th. You will receive voting information and details in the email you have registered with NEA-Alaska.
We encourage you to join now if you are not yet a member - you will not be able to vote if you do not have a current membership.
New members, including new hires (welcome to KPBSD!), will be able to vote in the election as well as long as they file their join paperwork. Once your paperwork is processed (this does take some time, so get it in as soon as possible), you'll receive voting information in your inbox if the voting window is still open.
Here is a copy of the new agreement. You'll find that we put in some extra work to reformat the document, clean up a lot of grammatical errors, place the relevant logos on them, and make the document more navigable for members. If you're having trouble viewing the TA, you can download the PDF here.
